{"id":20675,"date":"2024-05-24T09:41:26","date_gmt":"2024-05-24T09:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/?p=20675"},"modified":"2024-05-24T09:41:26","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T09:41:26","slug":"apartment-block-fire-in-vietnams-hanoi-kills-14-state-media-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/2024\/05\/apartment-block-fire-in-vietnams-hanoi-kills-14-state-media-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Apartment block fire in Vietnam\u2019s Hanoi kills 14, state media says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MONITORING (SW) &#8211; A fire at an apartment block in Vietnam\u2019s capital Hanoi has killed at least 14 people and injured three others, state media has reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fire broke out at a five-storey building in central Hanoi\u2019s Cau Giay district at around 12:30am on Friday (17:30 GMT on Thursday), according to media reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fire was big, with several explosions,\u201d Vietnam News Agency (VNA) said.<\/p>\n<p>Vietnam\u2019s Ministry of Public Security said firefighters rescued seven people from the building after it became engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n<p>The fire is believed to have started in the courtyard between two blocks used to sell and repair electric bicycles, state-run VnExpress reported.<\/p>\n<p>Pictures from the apartment block showed charred belongings in the building\u2019s courtyard and the fire-damaged interior of the first floor.<\/p>\n<p>Neighbor Ngo Thi Thuy, 40, was quoted telling VnExpress that she ran out onto the roof of her five-storey building after hearing people screaming about a fire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat hit me was something I had never seen before. Fire was burning furiously through gaps of the corrugated iron roof, and the engulfing smoke made it hard to see anything.
