FAIZABAD (SW) \u2013 Local officials in Badakhshan have confirmed that the Maimi district of the province has fallen to the Taliban.<\/p>\n
Kambiz Qorbani, governor of the Maimi district, has confirmed the fall of the district to the insurgents.<\/p>\n
According to a well-placed source, the Taliban have killed the district police chief as well as the head of NDS and a number of other security forces. The source added that a number of security forces are still fighting the Taliban, but do not have enough equipment to retake the district.<\/p>\n
Ahmad Javed Mujaddidi, a member of the provincial council, has confirmed these reports.<\/p>\n
Spokesman for the police headquarters, Sanaullah Rouhani has acknowledged that a number of security forces have been killed, but did not comment on the number of casualties. He called the killing of Maimi police chief as a rumor.<\/p>\n
Badakhshan’s Maimi district has been under siege by Taliban fighters for some time now.<\/p>\n
