MONITORING (SW) \u2013 The Taliban have said in a statement that the Doha agreement is \u201can excellent document for bringing an end to the war and for a better future\u201d for Afghanistan and the US.<\/p>\n
The groups has urged new American president-elect and future administration that the withdrawal of all US forces from Afghanistan is in the interest of both \u201cour peoples and our nations\u201d. The groups also expressed its commitment to the Doha agreement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe future American president and administration need to be vigilant of war-mongering circles, individuals and groups that seek to perpetuate the war and to keep America mired in conflict in order to pursue their own personal interests and hold over power\u201d, said the Taliban statement.<\/p>\n
Security analysts believe the Taliban aim to exert pressure on the US with such comments. Former deputy interior minister Mirza Mohammad Yaarmand told Salam Watandar that the new US administration is likely to review the strategies of the previous administration, which has worried the group.<\/p>\n
However, Assadullah Nadeem, another analyst, said any changes in the US policy would further delay the talks in Qatar.<\/p>\n
This comes as the Afghan government continues to blame the insurgents for mounting terrorist attacks across the country. Second vice president Sarwar Danish on Monday urged the new US administration under president-elect Joe Biden to reconsider the ongoing peace talks with the Taliban.<\/p>\n
Addressing a conference in Kabul, Danish claimed the insurgents did not believe in a peaceful solution to the conflict. \u201cWe (the Afghan government) have neither signed nor been a party to this agreement (peace agreement between the US and Taliban) nor have we ratified it, and from our legal point of view and our obligations, we have no responsibility for the details of its content,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
