ZABUL (SW) – Zabul, located in the chilly southern region of Afghanistan, witnesses its residents relying heavily on various heating sources to combat the winter cold.<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, with the arrival of winter, the price of a bushel of firewood in this province has reached 65 to 70 Afghanis this year, which according to the residents of Zabul, its price is exorbitant and most families cannot afford it.<\/p>\n

Residents of Zabul, namely Mohammad Khan and Rahimullah, expressed their grievances about the rising firewood prices in the province, saying that due to the cold weather, a small family now requires about two sacks of firewood daily.<\/p>\n

They add that with the onset of winter each year, the cost of firewood tends to rise. According to them, local officials should prioritize addressing this issue more effectively to prevent the recurring problem.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, fuelwood sellers in Qalat city, the center of Zabul, state that the surge in wood prices is attributed to a complete scarcity of wood and the closure of roads in both the city and districts of the province due to winter snowfall.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, local officials in Zabul acknowledge that the price of fuel rises during winter compared to other seasons, attributing it to increased demand during the colder months, adding that they are making efforts to control the price of fuel in the province.<\/p>\n

Ziaulhaq Zahid, the deputy of Qalat municipality, emphasizes that no one is permitted to sell fuelwood at exorbitant prices.<\/p>\n
