{"id":15125,"date":"2023-07-31T11:28:25","date_gmt":"2023-07-31T11:28:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/?p=15125"},"modified":"2023-07-31T11:28:25","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T11:28:25","slug":"pakistan-death-toll-from-suicide-bombing-surges-to-46","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/2023\/07\/pakistan-death-toll-from-suicide-bombing-surges-to-46\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan: Death toll from suicide bombing surges to 46"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MONITORING (SW) &#8211; The death toll from Sunday\u2019s suicide bombing at a Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) gathering in Pakistan&#8217;s Bajaur district rose to 46 on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More than 40 people were\u00a0killed and over 150 others injured\u00a0in Khar, a town bordering Afghanistan, when a powerful explosion ripped through the JUI-F convention.<\/p>\n<p>According to eyewitnesses, hundreds of party workers along with local leaders were present at the gathering when the blast occurred.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--adjustable my-4 hidden sm:block clear-both py-4\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div class=\"js-ad    flow-root\">\n<div class=\"radWrapper  ad__wrapper\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1455520357400-2\" class=\"ad__wrapper__slot\" data-google-query-id=\"CJjs_tzpuIADFQxMKwod1msLgw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/1029551\/DAWN-LB-728x90-MIDDLE_0__container__\">The bomb went off when a party leader was addressing the convention. JUI-F officials told <em>Dawn<\/em>\u00a0that the party\u2019s Khar General Secretary Ziaullah, JUI-F District Press Secretary Mujahid Khan and his son were among the dead. The death toll is feared to increase further.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the district administration and Rescue 1122 officials, the explosion occurred at 4pm near the Shandi area, some 2km from Khar.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Naseeb Gul, the district medical superintendent of the Khar hospital, told\u00a0<em>Dawn.com<\/em>\u00a0today that the death toll of the explosion increased to 46 after another injured person succumbed to his wounds.<\/p>\n<p>He said approximately 90 wounded people were brought to the medical facility, adding that 36 bodies had been handed over to the heirs after identification.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Gul said the deceased included five children.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, traders in Bajaur have announced a shutter-down strike across the district.<\/p>\n<p>According to a\u00a0<em>Dawn<\/em>\u00a0report, security officials believed that yesterday\u2019s bombing was a \u201csuicide attack\u201d. A senior police official claimed that the militant Islamic State (Islamic State in Khorasan, or IS-K) group was possibly involved in the attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no question about it,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no threat of bombing in the district,\u201d security officials told\u00a0<em>Dawn<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It may be noted that reports had earlier indicated the presence of IS-K in the Bajaur district.
