MAIMANA (SW) – Maimana Municipality in the center of Faryab has announced the demolition of hundreds of old and non-standard shops and their reconstruction in line with the urban standards.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mohibullah Mawafaq, the mayor of Maimana, says that a number of shops that were built decades ago and were outdated and without new urban facilities, will be demolished and rebuilt according to the master plan due to the repeated requests of the people and with the coordination of the shop owners and the provincial authority.<\/p>\n

The mayor did not say anything about the exact number of shops that are going to be demolished and rebuilt, but he added that shops on “Herat” road and “Zargari” road are currently being demolished and reconstructed, and other areas will also be demolished and reconstructed. He said: “Shops that were 80 to 100 years old, in addition to those that were destroyed, every year we saw the collapse of several shops, and based on the repeated requests of the people and the proposal of the municipality, the owners of the shops were advised to demolish their shops and rebuild.”<\/p>\n

At the same time, the owners of some of these shops, welcoming this action by the municipality, said that they do not have the economic ability to rebuild their shops. Expressing their concern about their economic situation, they also complained about the increase in the price of construction materials. They urged the municipality to prevent hoarding by sellers of construction materials.<\/p>\n

Abdul Halim, one of the shopkeepers in the city, said: “We are happy that our city is settled, but the price of repair materials has gone up that’s why we are a little disappointed. One thousand bricks cost 3,800 afghanis, I bought for 4,800 afghanis this morning. The price of iron has gone up in the same way. They should have controlled the price of construction materials, they would not have allowed it to rise.”<\/p>\n

Aminullah, another shopkeeper in the city, said: “Most people cannot spend 500,000 or 1 million afghani rebuilding these shops. When it became public, they were forced to borrow from someone and settle. In fact, they are not able to handle it anymore.”<\/p>\n

Some tenants say that they cannot afford to rebuild their shops and the owners of these shops should bear the responsibility of rebuilding them. Ahmad Shakib, one of the tenants, expressing his concern about the lack of business and the increase in the rent of the shops, said: “On the one hand, the owners of the shops say that the tenants should build the shops and adjust it in the annual rent, and on the other hand they say that the rent of the shops should go up. We ask the municipality to pay serious attention to this matter so that the rent does not go up.”<\/p>\n

Anumber of workers in the city of Maimana expressed their satisfaction with the increase in business and asked the government to provide them with sustainable work opportunities so that they no longer migrate to neighboring countries for a bite of bread.<\/p>\n

Ahmed, one of the workers in Maimana city, said: “By the way, we are very happy that we are working in our city so that our country can progress. The same kind of working environment should be provided for us to work and take a bite of halal bread to our wife and children.”<\/p>\n

Residents of Maimana have appreciated this action of the municipality and want more attention from this department in cleaning the gutters inside the city. Earlier, the municipality cleared all the sidewalks to pedestrians from peddlers, which has been welcomed by the residents of Faryab.<\/p>\n
