In 2021, 18.4 million people needed humanitarian aid, and this number will reach 24.4 million in 2022 and 28.3 million in 2023. Out of this group, 20 million people are facing hunger and this shows that Afghanistan will have a very difficult year ahead.”

OCHA has warned about the lack of 95 percent of the necessary budget for humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

A number of Afghans are equally worried about the decrease in international aid to needy families and say that they are in dire need of humanitarian aid to save themselves from hunger.

Tayyaba Salam, a resident of Bamiyan, told Salam Watandar: “When there is help, the problems are somehow resolved. When the aid stopps, we get worried about what to do. Foreign aid is temporary and secondly, it cannot solve economic problems. The economy and all ministries are focused on increasing the gross domestic product to reduce poverty. The numbers published by international organizations are their own findings. Some organizations publish these numbers for their financial resources.”

After the rule of the Islamic Emirate and the delay of development projects in Afghanistan, the need of Afghans for humanitarian aid and the level of poverty have increased, as at this time, more than 28 million Afghans need humanitarian aid, according to the UN.

ENDS

KABUL (SW) – Analysts fear drastic cuts in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan would further aggravate the lingering crisis in the country.
