{"id":13869,"date":"2023-03-25T08:19:31","date_gmt":"2023-03-25T08:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/?p=13869"},"modified":"2023-03-25T08:27:22","modified_gmt":"2023-03-25T08:27:22","slug":"afghan-skipper-rashid-hails-maiden-t20-win-against-pakistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/2023\/03\/afghan-skipper-rashid-hails-maiden-t20-win-against-pakistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Afghan skipper Rashid hails maiden T20 win against Pakistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MONITORING (SW) &#8211; Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan hailed the team\u2019s maiden T20 victory against Pakistan but said their front-line batters need to improve ahead of the 50-overs World Cup in India later this year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"container mx-auto px-2 sm:px-0\">\n<div class=\"flex\">\n<div class=\"w-full max-w-screen-md xl:pr-4 \">\n<article class=\"story single bg-white font-georgia\" data-id=\"1744140\" data-layout=\"default\">\n<div class=\"template__main flow-root px-1 w-full sm:w-2\/3 mx-auto\">\n<div class=\"story__content overflow-hidden text-4 sm:text-4.5 pt-1 mt-1\" dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Rashid and his teammates humbled a new-look Pakistan by six wickets in the opening T20 International in Sharjah on Friday, reported Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>They restricted the young Pakistan side, led by Shadab Khan, to 92-9 and chased down the target with 13 balls to spare with Mohammad Nabi making an unbeaten 38 in the low-scoring contest to go with his two wickets with the ball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a pleasure to win as we\u2019ve always lost against them, sometimes with small margins,\u201d Rashid said after the victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHappy for the win, and we hope to continue the momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was not an easy chase though as Afghanistan slumped to 27-3 before Nabi rescued them.<\/p>\n<p>Rashid said their top order needed to perform better in the ongoing three-match series and maintain that form heading into the ODI World Cup in October-November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to improve not just for this series but as we get to the World Cup,\u201d Rashid said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom now on, we need to put effort day by day and game by game, so that by the end of the year, when we go for the World Cup, we\u2019ll have a fully prepared squad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second T20 is scheduled for Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Nabi also took 2-12 and was ably assisted by Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2-9) and pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi (2-13) to restrict Pakistan to 92-9 after they won the toss and batted at Sharjah Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Nabi then kept his cool with a cautious run-a-ball 38 not out and added 53 for the unbroken fifth wicket with Najibullah Zadran (17 not out) to help Afghanistan overhaul the target in 17.5 overs.<\/p>\n<p>Nabi hit his first boundary off his 27th ball and then hit two more in the next over from Naseem Shah before sealing the win with a six off Ihsanullah.<\/p>\n<p>Pace bowler Ihsanullah (2-17) dismissed Ibrahim Zadran (nine) with the first ball of his T20I career and then had Gulbadin Naib (nought) to leave Afgh\u00adanistan tottering at 45-4 but Nabi and Najibullah made sure victory was achieved.<\/p>\n<p>With five key players \u2014 skipper Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Fak\u00adhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf rested for the series \u2014 Pakistan handed T20I debuts to Saim Ayub, Tayyab Tahir, Ihsanullah and Zaman Khan.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan were 41-5 in the eighth over on a Sharjah Stadium pitch that gave assistance to Afghanistan\u2019s three-pronged spin attack.<\/p>\n<p>Imad Wasim top-scored with 18 while Ayub (17), Tahir (16) and skipper Shadab Khan (12) were the other main run-getters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<footer>\n<div class=\"w-full bg-black\">\n<div class=\"py-4\">\n<div class=\"container px-2\">\n<div class=\"flex flex-col sm:flex-row\">\n<div class=\"md:w-1\/6 w-full\">\n<nav class=\"text-2.5 text-white\">\n<p class=\"font-normal text-white text-left md:text-right\">ENDS<\/p>\n<\/nav>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/footer>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MONITORING (SW) &#8211; Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan hailed the team\u2019s maiden T20 victory against Pakistan but said their front-line batters need to improve ahead of the 50-overs World Cup in India later this year.
