This unjustified and shortsighted decision has crushed the hopes and dreams of more than one million girls, and marks another grim milestone in the steady erosion of girls\u2019 and women\u2019s rights nationwide&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>she stressed that girls across Afghanistan have been denied their right to learn for over three years \u2013 first, due to COVID-19, and then because of the ban on attending secondary school. The cumulative impact of these absences is taking a terrible toll on girls\u2019 mental health, overall wellbeing and on their futures.<\/p>\n<div class=\"main-container js-quickedit-main-content\" role=\"main\">\n<section class=\"region region--content\" role=\"region\" aria-label=\"content\">\n<div id=\"block-unicef-base-mainpagecontent\" class=\"block block-system block-system-main-block clearfix\" data-block-plugin-id=\"system_main_block\">\n<article class=\"cview-full ctype-press_release\" role=\"article\">\n<div class=\"main-content-cntr selectric-small\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"press-release--content col2-1-dt\">\n<div class=\"press-release--left-rail\">\n<div class=\"press_text_cntr\">\n<div class=\"field node field_press_release_cntblocks  odd-t entity_reference_revisions\">\n<div class=\"field_press_release_cntblocks-item odd\">\n<div class=\"text--block-content section-block-content\">\n<div class=\"comp-txt\">\n<div class=\"field paragraph field_component_text_content  odd-t text_long\">\n<p class=\"paragraph\">\u201cGirls and adolescents, including those with disabilities, have the right to an education. Preventing girls from learning will also have far-reaching consequences for the country\u2019s economy and health system&#8221;, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">The UNICEF executive director said there is a chorus of girls\u2019 voices all over Afghanistan urging us to find practical solutions for their education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">\u201cUNICEF stands with every girl and woman in Afghanistan and calls on the de facto authorities to allow all girls to return to school with immediate effect.
