{"id":13767,"date":"2023-03-13T11:21:38","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T11:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/?p=13767"},"modified":"2023-03-13T11:23:30","modified_gmt":"2023-03-13T11:23:30","slug":"daesh-claims-responsibility-for-the-attack-in-the-balkh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/2023\/03\/daesh-claims-responsibility-for-the-attack-in-the-balkh\/","title":{"rendered":"Daesh claims responsibility for the attack in the Balkh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MONITORING (SW) &#8211; The Daesh terrorist group\u00a0has claimed responsibility for a Saturday attack in the Balkh province, the group\u2019s telegram account said on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"body-1 paragraph\" data-aa-component=\"paragraph\" data-allow-readmode=\"\">The blast at a cultural center during an event for journalists in northern Afghanistan killed at least one person and wounded eight, according to authorities and journalists, reported Reuters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-1 paragraph\" data-aa-component=\"paragraph\" data-allow-readmode=\"\">The incident came a few days after the province\u2019s governor died in an explosion also claimed by Daesh.<\/p>\n<p>The deadly blast in Balkh targeting journalists was widely condemned.<\/p>\n<p>Following the explosion in the gathering of journalists in Balkh, Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for Afghanistan, has called for more support for Afghan journalists.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote on his Twitter handle on Saturday that the attack on the gathering of journalists at the Tabiyan Cultural Center in Mazar-e-Sharif is another blow to freedom of expression in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Bennett has called for a detailed investigation and follow-up of the explosion in the gathering of journalists in Balkh.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate has confirmed that one person was killed and eight people were injured in this incident.
