{"id":12941,"date":"2022-12-15T13:45:41","date_gmt":"2022-12-15T13:45:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/?p=12941"},"modified":"2022-12-15T13:45:41","modified_gmt":"2022-12-15T13:45:41","slug":"cpj-raises-concerns-over-the-plight-of-journalists-in-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swn.af\/en\/2022\/12\/cpj-raises-concerns-over-the-plight-of-journalists-in-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"CPJ raises concerns over the plight of journalists in Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>KABUL (SW) &#8211;\u00a0The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has published a report placing Afghanistan in the list of countries where journalists are detained the most.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to this report, Iran has arrested 62 journalists in the past year, making it the highest number of journalists.<\/p>\n<p>In its report, this organization said that in 2022, at least 363 journalists were arrested around the world, which is unprecedented in the past 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report of the Committee to Protect Journalists, three journalists are currently under arrest in Afghanistan, and since the return of the Islamic Emirate to power, the pressure on media activity has increased.<\/p>\n<p>Officials of the Ministry of Information and Culture, however, call the claim of the Committee for the Protection of Journalists as baseless.<\/p>\n<p>Hayatullah Mohajer Farahi, Deputy Minister of Media Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Culture, told Salam Watandar the claim that Afghanistan is not a suitable country for journalists and that the number of arrests and obstructions to journalists has increased is false. &#8220;There are no documents and evidence. There is no such thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although the Islamic Emirate claims that there are no journalists currently imprisoned in Afghanistan, in the past year, many journalists have been arrested by the forces of the Islamic Emirate and some have been imprisoned for some time.<\/p>\n<p>Journalists are concerned about this situation and say that arbitrary arrests have negatively affected media activity in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It really creates fear for us,&#8221; said reporter Wahidah Bayat. &#8220;When we leave home for work, firstly, no one is ready to talk, and secondly, we fear for our lives and our families.
