Afghanistan and Iran holds talk over border issues

KABUL (SW) – Iranian media have reported that a delegation of the Islamic Emirate from Kabul arrived in Tehran yesterday to discuss disputed border issues between Afghanistan and Iran.

Tasnim News Agency reported that the delegation, led by Sadullah Baluch, head of the Security Cooperation and Border Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, is scheduled to attend the seventh meeting of the Iran-Afghanistan High Border Commission and hold talks with the Iranian delegation.

The delegation is accompanied by 14 officials from the Ministries of Defense, Interior, Energy and Water, Foreign Affairs, and Border and Tribal Affairs.

Tasnim added that in the seventh meeting of the High Border Commission between Iran and Afghanistan, various border issues between the two countries will be addressed.

The existence of some border problems and more coordination to fight drug and human trafficking, as well as a joint fight against the activities of illegal groups on the borders are other issues that are to be discussed at this conference and lead to basic agreements between Tehran and Kabul.

The officials of the Islamic Emirate have not said anything about this so far. Meanwhile, clashes broke out between Islamic Emirate forces and Iranian border guards on the border in Nimroz province on Tuesday evening.

Local sources told Salam Watandar that the clash took place after Iranian border guards shot at an Afghan child who was collecting garbage.

Iranian media also reported that Mohammad Sayadi, one of the country’s border guards, was killed in the clash.
