Islamic Emirate’s policies complicating political situation, says analysts

KABUL (SW) – Analysts believe the inconsistency and evident differences in action and the stated policies of the Islamic Emirate complicate the political situation in the country.

This comes as former President Hamid Karzai’s visit to the United Arab Emirates to attend the funeral of the late President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was reportedly thwarted by the Islamic Emirate forces.

Political analysts say that the Islamic Emirate’s approach creates skepticism about the work of the Commission tasked with political reconciliation.

Nurshah Noorani, a political analyst, said: “This move creates disbelief in the Commission among politicians to return to the country. Living and working with the Islamic Emirate is frustrating.”

Moin Khan Samakani, another political analyst who claims that Hamid Karzai has not been allowed to travel, says the Islamic Emirate’s approach undermines the Commission’s credibility among the Afghan figures wishing to return to the country.

According to him, Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the now defunct National High Reconciliation Council in the previous government, did not return to the country after receiving permission to leave. He added that if the former president had been allowed to travel abroad, there would have been an atmosphere of confidence-building.

According to reports, Hamid Karzai wanted to leave the country with UAE officials, but the Islamic Emirate did not approve or reject his request for travel. We wanted to have the views of Hamid Karzai’s office on whether to approve or reject this issue, but to no avail despite repeated calls.
