Gunmen kill school administrator in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (SW) – Unknown gunmen have shot dead a local private school administrator in Kandahar province, confirmed officials. 

Local officials in Kandahar say that late yesterday (Saturday, May 14), the deputy director of the Afghan-Turkish private high school in the town of Ainu Maina, in the 11th district of Kandahar, was killed by unknown gunmen.

Confirming the incident, Mahmoud Azm, spokesman for the governor of Kandahar, told Salam Wtandar that the body of the killed person had been found inside a car after about two hours in an area where there was little traffic.

Meanwhile, local sources in Kandahar also told Salam Watandar that the deputy director of the Afghan-Turkish private high school, named Ershad Ahmad Afzali, had been killed yesterday evening.

According to sources, unidentified gunmen also took his mobile phone with them. Sources add that the body of the killed person was transferred to Kandahar District Hospital.

Mohammad Asif Hakimi, spokesman for the Kandahar Police Command, also confirmed the incident, added that investigations were under way to arrest the perpetrators.

The incident took place after sources informed Salam Watandar that the teaching process in a number of schools of the Afghan – Turk foundation in Kabul had been suspended due to security threats.

Abdul Mohit Azizi, head of the Afghan – Turk education foundation’s girls’ school in Kabul, confirmed that the schools had been temporarily closed. He told Salam Watandar that the decision had been made after consulting with the Islamic Emirate’s intelligence directorate.
