Paktika residents long for basic health services

SHARANA (SW) – Paktika residents say they have been longing for some of the basic health services since years.

Residents of the provincial capital, Sharana as well as Waza Khwa, Khosh Aamand, Warmami and Gomal districts in the province told Salam Watandar that they were facing serious health problems.

They added that in some districts there is no hospital and in areas where there are hospitals and health centers there is no trace of doctors and medicine.

They want the Islamic Emirate to provide basic services to the people and get rid of these problems.

“In some areas, there is no hospital at all and if there is, there are no doctors, but professional doctors are a long way off,” said Tawakal, a Paktika resident. “We bring our patients from remote districts to the center, which is a big problem for the patients.”

Sher Khan, another resident of Paktika’s Warmami district, said the last two decades of war have deprived him of all privileges. He called on the government and the international community to pay special attention to education, health, agriculture and humanitarian aid in Paktika.

“In the last 20 years, we have not had a school, a hospital, or any grant,” he said. “No karez/ canal built. People are facing widespread problems and some have left. There are people who don’t have anything to eat”, he said.

Meanwhile, Paktika’s deputy governor, Mohibullah Hamas, acknowledged that people in some remote districts were facing health problems, but promised that the problem would be resolved soon.

He said that these problems remained during the previous government and the officials of the Islamic Emirate in the province are now trying to solve the problems of the people in remote districts and provide better services to them.
