Top EU diplomat meets Sirajuddin Haqqani

KABUL (SW) – Tomas Niklasson, Special Envoy of the European Union for Afghanistan has met with Sirajuddin Haqqani, interior minister for the Isalmic Emirate, said an official statement. 

In a series of tweets, the top EU diplomat said he raised his surprise and deep disappointment that secondary schools for girls had not opened after Nowruz. “Mr Haqqani explicitly promised that this would be addressed within a few weeks”, he tweeted.

“Regarding the passport issue we did talk about the need for Afghan passport booklets both in Kabul and in Afghan Embassies and Consulates abroad. I explained some of the challenges involved with a view to addressing them”, he tweeted.

The Ministry of Interior announced in a press release that Haqqani said that the world should not support any armed group in Afghanistan. “Sirajuddin Haqqani stressed that the Islamic Emirate does not allow any threat from Afghanistan to other countries under the Doha Agreement. He said the door to dialogue was open to all their opponents”, said the statement.
