Turkey defends inviting Muttaqi to ADF

MONITORING (SW) – Mevlut Cavusoglu, the  Turkish Foreign Minister, has said that the Islamic Emirate has not yet fulfilled some of its obligations in Afghanistan.

In a news conference concluding the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in southern Turkiye, Mevlut Cavusoglu stressed that the Islamic Emirate must take the necessary steps to be recognized by the international community.

Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported that the Turkish Foreign Minister said one part of Afghanistan’s needs depends on humanitarian aid, but the other part has to do with other issues.

He stressed that Turkey is in no hurry to recognize the government of the Islamic Emirate, “because, like the rest of the world, it wants to monitor their actions.”

Responding to a question on inviting Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to ADF, Cavusoglu said they invited everyone without any discrimination.

“It is very natural for us to invite the current interim administration of Afghanistan. Because everyone is saying something about Afghanistan, it would be beneficial to have Afghanistan there while they are saying it,” he added.

The Turkish minister stressed that the urgent need for Afghanistan is humanitarian aid.

“There are other steps that need to be taken especially for the security and stability of the country’s economy,” he said while underscoring that Turkiye is in no rush to recognize the country’s interim administration, and is waiting, like many other countries, for Kabul to take the necessary steps

He also said that a full agreement has not been reached for the management and security of Kabul International Airport, the establishment of a joint company of Qatar and Turkey and holding talks in the capitals of the three countries on related matters.

“In all the meetings with the representatives of the interim (Afghan) government, we have stated that this plan is not for profit, but a step towards the development of the country,” he said. He added that if an agreement is reached on the management of Kabul Airport, the management of three other airfields in Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat and Kandahar will also be mentioned as one of the topics of discussion.
