Technical glitches blamed for cut in power supply from Uzbekistan

KABUL (SW) – The power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, DABS, has said Uzbekistan’s electricity transmission to Afghanistan has been cut off due to a technical problem with the Central Asian power system.

The DABS said in a statement today that an hour ago, a technical problem arose in the power system of Central Asian countries, resulting in power outages in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

According to DABS, the technical teams of the three countries are working to resolve the issue.

Parts of Kabul city and several provinces have also been cut off from the national grid due to this.

The DABS also said that for the first time, the company’s technical team was able to connect Turkmenistan’s electricity transmission to Kabul.

According to DABS, some of the needs of the consumers have been met with the connection of Turkmenistan electricity.

Earlier this week, a senior-level official delegation from Turkmenistan visited Kabul to hold talks with the Afghan officials on power transmission matters.

A delegation from the Turkmen Ministry of Energy  arrived in Kabul to expedite the legal and technical work of power projects, including the TAPI project,  Afghanistan’s power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat said in a press release.
