Ghazni witnessing a boom of sporting activities

GHAZNI (SW) – The central Ghazni province has been witnessing a boom in sporting activities following the rise to power of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Ghazni was one of the most insecure provinces in the country for the past many years. Widespread insecurity in Ghazni, in addition to other aspects of life, also overshadowed sports activities, and athletes in the province could not exhibit their talent.

Now, with the establishment of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan and the provision of security in the province, the holding of competitions and sporting events in the last four months has increased to an unprecedented level compared to previous years.

Haji Bilal, head of the Ghazni Sports Directorate, said that in the last four months, 37 large sports programs have been launched in Ghazni with the participation of athletes from several provinces. In previous years, no more than 10 sports programs were launched in the province in one year. He said that the reason for the increase in competitions and sports activities in the province is the provision of security.

In the last four months, the scope of sports activities has expanded from the center to different districts of Ghazni province.

Shamsuddin Azami, head of the Ghazni Football Federation, said that different districts in the province, including Muqur, Qarabagh, Zana Khan, Malistan, Andar and Jaghori, which had been deprived of sports competitions, had already witnessed the biggest sports competitions.

On the other hand, as the security situation has improved, athletes from other provinces of the country have been able to come to Ghazni in recent months to compete with their opponents.

Abuzar Mahmoudi, trainer and Mohammad Zahir, one of the athletes in Ghazni, said that holding big competitions and competitions with the presence of guests from other provinces has encouraged the athletes of this province to continue with the sports.

“Athletes from 16 provinces came to Ghazni province and were hosted. All this is because of good security. Fortunately, we have implemented our plan in the past four months this year. In previous years, we did not even have any chance to come to Ghazni city.”

Mohammad Zahir added: “Fortunately, many changes have taken place in the last four months and our security situation has improved. For example, we are very comfortable traveling to any district we want to go to. Our competitions have increased compared to the past.”

According to the Ghazni Sports Directorate, there are 33 sports federations in the province, including martial arts and freestyle sports, and thousands of young people are involved in various sports.

Officials of Ghazni Sports Department add that they are considering other competitive programs in the future to be launched in this province with the participation of athletes from different provinces of the country.
