Saudi embassy resumes consular services in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – The Saudi Embassy in Kabul has reopened its consular services for Afghan citizens, confirmed an official.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has announced that the Saudi Embassy in Kabul has started consular services for Afghan citizens. The Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi wrote on Twitter that the 14-member diplomatic team of the Saudi embassy in Afghanistan had returned to Kabul yesterday.

Balkhi said that the Islamic Emirate welcomes this Saudi diplomatic team and appreciates the good action of the Saudi government. He stressed that the Islamic Emirate considers the resumption of consular services of the Saudi Embassy in Kabul as the beginning of the country’s good relations with Afghanistan.

The Saudi government has also announced that it has begun consular services for Afghan citizens.

It has been more than three months since the Islamic Emirate took charge of Afghanistan. No country, including Saudi Arabia, has formally recognized the Islamic Emirate during this period, but embassies from a number of neighboring countries and the region have resumed operations in Kabul.
