Poverty compels a family to sell off their three children

PUL-E-KHUMRI (SW) – Poverty has compelled a family in Baghlan province to sell off their three children to make ends meet.

Relatives of a family in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province, say a family has sold their three children due to poverty. Assadollah (a pseudonym), one of the family’s relatives, tells Salamutandar that the man of the family has two wives and seven children.

Assadullah says the family sold their two children for 50,000 afghanis due to poverty and married a young girl to a middle-aged man in exchange for money.

According to Assadullah, the man disappeared after receiving the money. The incident took place in the Karkar area of Pul-e-Khumri last week.

According to the relatives of this family, the problem of poverty of this family has not been solved yet and they are still facing poverty and hardship. They say they will auction off their other children if the family is not helped.

The son of the sold-out midwife says that the mothers of these children are in a bad situation and need immediate help.

With the fall of the previous government and the presence of the Islamic Emirate, the aid of the international community was limited to the country and most of the money that belonged to the country was closed in the world banks. All these factors have caused the economic situation of the Afghan people to deteriorate more and more every day.
