Taliban forces thrash journalists at Torkham

KABUL (SW) – At least two journalists were beaten while executing their jobs in Nangarhar on Sunday.

The forces of the Islamic Emirate physically abused Sedaqat Ghorzang, a reporter for Tolo News private television, and Javid Razmand, a reporter for another private news outlet, in the area of Torkham Town, located at the Torkham crossing with Pakistan.

The reporters told Salam Watandar that they had gone to the town to report on the departure of the passengers to Pakistan, but that they had not only been beaten by the forces of the Islamic Emirate, but some of their tools have also been broken.

The reporters added that although the officials of the Torkham Crossing Commission had allowed them to go to the area and prepare a report, but the forces of the Islamic Emirate still beat them.

Meanwhile, officials from the Islamic Emirate’s Information and Culture Department in Nangarhar say the incident was the result of a misunderstanding, and they apologize to the reporters. Officials in the department promised to compensate the journalists for their broken equipment.

This is not the first time that the forces of the Islamic Emirate have attacked journalists. Last Thursday, several journalists were beaten and insulted by the forces of the Islamic Emirate while covering the protest of women and civil activists in Kabul.

Afghan journalists have been repeatedly confronted with violence by Islamic Emirate forces during coverage of protests and rallies by women, youth and civil society activists in Kabul and other provinces.
