Pakistan bars Kam Air from operating between Kabul, Islamabad

KABUL (SW) – The government of Pakistan has denied Afghanistan’s Kam Air from operating flights between Kabul and Islamabad.

Officials at Afghanistan’s Kam Air says their planes have not been allowed to fly from Afghanistan to Pakistan for several days and flights have been suspended indefinitely. They emphasized that the Pakistani Ministry of Interior has set new rules for the company’s passengers and now only Pakistan Airlines, PIA, aircrafts are allowed to transport passengers between the two countries.

Sohrab Amini, deputy director of Kam Air, told Salam Watandar that the reason for the new law was not clear and that only PIA was flying between Kabul and Islamabad until further notice.

“Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior has called for an NOC for Kam Air passenger, we asked again if there were any other conditions for us to meet since PIA planes are transporting same passengers without any additional NOCs, but we are asked to present one”, he said.

Meanwhile, officials tour operators in Kabul say that the price of tickets for PIA flights has increased significantly compared to the past.

Faiz Mohammad Niazi, head of a private travel company, says the price of tickets, which used to be up to 25,000 afghanis, has now risen to more than $ 2,000.

The Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed the suspension of Kam Air flights to Pakistan.

Ghulam Jilani Vafa, Deputy Chief of Operations of the Civil Aviation Authority said the private airliner was asked to share details of operation permit three months ago.

After resolution of technical problems at the Kabul Airport and reopening it to international flights, Kam Air was operating three flights a week from Kabul to Islamabad.
