WHO says Covid-19 vaccines are going to get wasted in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that since the beginning of August this year, there has been a reduction in the number of vaccinations and testing for coronavirus across Afghanistan.

In a series of tweets, the WHO said that 1.6 million doses of the Covid-19 will expire if not utilized soon.

To address this issue, the World Health Organization (WHO) stressed it is working with other partners to increase Covid 19 tests and vaccination campaigns in at least 16 provinces.

The organization added that 50,000 Covid-19 test kits had been flown into Afghanistan to meet the needs of laboratories. Another 150,000 kits will arrive in Afghanistan soon, according to the World Health Organization.

The World Health Organization also noted that new laboratories have been opened in Nimroz and Kunar provinces and work is underway to activate coronavirus testing laboratories in Parwan, Laghman and Kapisa provinces.

The process of testing for suspected cases of coronavirus and providing the vaccines has been disrupted with the establishment of the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan. International organizations, meanwhile, have warned of the collapse of Afghanistan’s healthcare system.
