Healthcare system near collapse in all provinces

KABUL (SW) – Facing acute shortages of medicine and healthcare services, residents of all provinces are said to be faced with dire consequences.

With the rise to power of the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate, much of international aid to Afghanistan was limited, which particularly affected the health sector.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, many residents of different provinces complained about the lack of medicine and medical equipment, saying that the lack of enough medicine has caused them many problems.

Most of the health centers in the eastern and southeastern provinces of the country, particularly in remote areas, said to be missing the necessary medical facilities and the residents of these provinces have to go to the health centers in faraway urban areas for treatment.

A number of residents of Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Nuristan said that in addition to the fact that the salaries of the doctors in the health centers are not paid, there was no medicine or food for the patients.

Residents of other provinces are also complaining.

Residents of the western parts of the country demanded the international community to provide medical assistance to Afghanistan.

The UN recently pledged $ 45 million in assistance to Afghanistan’s health sector. It also said that Afghanistan’s health sector needed more assistance and that the international community should resume its assistance to the country.
