Taliban to enact constitution from the era of King Zahir Shah

KABUL (SW) – Abdul Hakim Sharia, Acting Minister of Justice of the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate, has announced the temporary implementation of the constitutional law from the era of late King Mohammad Zahir Shah.

According to a statement posted on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Justice of the Islamic Emirate on Tuesday, he said this in a meeting with Wang Yu, Chinese Ambassador to Kabul. The Minister said that the constitutional law from the era of late King Mohammad Zahir Shah will be implemented except in cases that contradicts Islamic principles.

“The Islamic Emirate will implement the constitutional law of the former King Mohammad Zahir Shah for a temporary period without any content that contradicts Islamic law and the principles of the Islamic Emirate.”

The caretaker Minister of Justice added that international law that does not contradict Islamic principles is acceptable to the Islamic Emirate and that the Taliban respect them.

During his meeting with the Chinese Ambassador in Kabul, the Acting Minister of Justice emphasized that the Islamic Emirate wants to establish good and friendly relations with the world.

The constitutional law of Mohammad Zahir Shah was enacted in the year 9 and the second term was temporarily implemented during the transitional government.

It is worth noticing the constitution from the era of Zahir Shah was also put in place during the interim government that was established after the fall of the Taliban’s first regime.
