Nangarharis reeling from shortage of medicine

JALALABAD (SW) – Nangarhar residents are reeling from the devastating impacts of severe shortage of medicine and health products.

On the heels of a problematic healthcare system, many residents of Nangarhar are now complaining that the clinics operating in their areas do not have enough medicine and other medical facilities.

Residents in districts said they are forced to take their patients to other areas or to the Jalalabad regional hospital in the provincial capital, but due to economic hardship, this is proving difficult to manage.

Massoud, who took his patient from Durbaba district to Shinwari Ghani Khel Hospital, said there were no facilities there and he had to buy medicine from the market. He said that the foundations supporting the health sector should increase their cooperation in these difficult times.

In addition to medicines and other medical facilities, the lack of logistical materials has also hampered the functioning of hospitals.

Abdullah, a resident of Kama district, said the hospital did not have what people needed and that was why doctors were unable to treat them properly.

The Nangarhar Public Health Department acknowledges that there are problems with medicines and other essential items in some health clinics, but added that in addition to resolving them at the government level, it was in contact with donor agencies who have assured them of co-operation. .

Ata-ur-Rehman Fateh, director of public health in Nangarhar, told Salam Watandar that there is a shortage of medicines and food, but efforts were underway to get the donors’ help.
