Taliban say historic sites in Logar are well-protected

PUL-E-ALAM (SW) – Logar has some of the key historical and archaeological sites in Afghanistan dating back many centuries.

After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, some people were worried that the historical sites of Logar province would be damaged and looted, but Maulvi Sanaullah Masoomi, the head of the Islamic Emirate’s archaeological sites, has said that Taliban is committed to the full protection of historical site and antiquities. He also visited Logar’s Sajawand area in this connection.

According to him, a commission has been set up by the Taliban over the past one year to protect historical sites and monuments. He said construction of houses close to the sites remains prohibited and those who have built houses near the ancient sites will be relocated.

On the other hand, the director of the museums and archaeology at the Department of Information and Culture further said that this is the first official visit to the Sajawand archeological site in four years. He added that it is a very unique place for the locals. He said not much has been excavated in this historical and archaeological site, and much of it remains intact.

According to the officials, the Sajawand archeological site is one of the largest archeological sites in the country, the protection and maintenance of which is the responsibility of the people in addition to the relevant agencies.

Located between Ghazni, Gardez and Logar, Sajawand is an archaeological site located about 5 km from Pul-e-Alam.
