Political crisis looms as Taliban await international recognition

KABUL (SW) – Analysts believe Afghanistan would face severe political and economic glitches in the months to come if the Taliban rule is not recognized by the international community.

Nearly a month after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the group announced its cabinet members last Tuesday. But the Taliban cabinet has been criticized by countries in the region and the world for being so-called monopolistic and mono-ethnic.

Some political analysts say the Taliban have not yet met any of the international community’s preconditions for their government to be recognized, and that the group is unlikely to fulfill its commitments in the future.

Analysts believe that if the Taliban do not live up to their commitments and do not meet the conditions of the international community, their government will not be recognized, and Afghanistan will face a political and economic crisis and, ultimately, a civil war.

“If the Taliban fail to live up to the commitments of the international community, the United States and Europe, they will unfortunately move toward a war in Afghanistan, and Afghanistan will return to the battlefield,” said Mustafa Alizada, a political analyst.

Akram Arefi, another political analyst, emphasized that the lack of diplomatic relations and in some cases the imposition of sanctions on the Taliban government by other countries isolate Afghanistan and increase the scope of the crisis in the country.

Nearly a month after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, none of the countries in the region and the world have recognized their rule.
