4 members of polio vaccination team killed in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (SW) – Unknown assailants on Tuesday gunned down four members of the polio vaccination team in Nangarhar province, officials confirmed.

An official at the health directorate, Dr. Jan Mohammad has said vaccinators were attacked by unknown gunmen at four different locations. He said the incidents took place in Jalalabad, Khogyani and Surkh Rod districts.



He said the vaccination drive has been suspended following these unfortunate incidents.

The provincial governor, Ziaul Haq Amarkhail, confirmed the incidents via a statement while vehemently condemning the killing of health workers.

Earlier in March, three members of polio vaccination team, all female, were shot dead by unknown assailants in provincial capital Jalalabad city.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the assaults.
