Taliban kill 19 security forces in Ghor

GHOR (SW) – The raging violence in Ghor province has left at least 19 more security forces killed and at least 12 wounded, officials said on Saturday.

Local officials in Ghor said at least 19 soldiers have been killed in a Taliban attack in the Tulak district of the province. Suleiman Yousefi, the district governor of Tulk, told Salam Watandar that 19 security forces and members of the popular uprising had been killed, and 12 wounded following an attack by the Taliban last night.

The district governor of Tulk added that the condition of the injured is serious. According to him, Tulk district has been under siege by the Taliban for weeks and clashes are taking place around the clock.

The district governor of Tulk emphasized that he has discussed this issue with senior officials many times, but no attention has been paid yet. He warned the district will fall to the Taliban if additional forces do not reach them.

The Taliban, however, said that during last night’s attack in Tulak district, the group inflicted ‘heavy casualties’ on security forces and took away weapons, ammunition and other equipment with them.

Last week, the Ghor township fell to the Taliban, and fighting between security forces and the Taliban continued in five districts, including the provincial capital Firuzkuh.
