Danish expresses compassion to Hunaryar’s remarks

KABUL (SW) – Anarkali Hunaryar’s latest remarks exposing biased and discriminatory mindset in the country has led to an engaging debate.

“I am called an Indian. Even my own colleagues, who know me well, say ask Hunaryar about matters related to India because she knows India better”, said Sikh member of the upper house from Khost province. Speaking at the Ibn-e-Sina International Peace Award ceremony in Kabul last week, she said many of her countrymen call her Indian while she has only been to India two or three times.

A number of social media users expressed their support for Hunaryar and condemned the discriminative mindset.

Mohammad Sarwar Danesh, the second vice president also reacted to her remarks. “We are trembled and are ashamed of what happened to you and your peers”, said Danish.

The second vice president said the bitter experience faced by Hunaryar is shared by majority of people in Afghanistan and the deprived across the world. “We are all proud of your high human sentiments and pure patriotism,” said Danish. “Afghanistan is the common land of all its citizens, including Muslims and Hindus.”

In parts of her remarks, Hunaryar said that despite all the discriminatory behavior of her compatriots, she still loves Afghanistan and its citizens.

Hindus and Sikhs make up a significant population of Afghanistan, but have always complaint for being discriminated by the government and the citizens.
