VP Danish expresses readiness to amend Constitution

KABUL (SW) – First Vice president Mohammad Sarwar Danish has said it is worthwhile to amend the constitution through legal means if peace agreement is reached with the Taliban.

He said this at the inauguration of the acting attorney general Zabihullah Kalimzi in Kabul. Danish said that the government has a plan to ensure peace and if there is peace, the government is committed to amending the constitution.

The VP emphasized upon the need to fight against corruption. He said the government is committed to peace, and it has prepared a roadmap for achieving peace. He emphasized upon an electoral system and said the new president should come to power through elections.

The second vice president added that if peace is ensured, the government is committed to amending the constitution.

Meanwhile, Acting Attorney General Zabihullah Kalimzai vowed to put up a serious fight against corruption and deal firmly with land grabbers. He promised to protect human and women’s rights, appoint qualified prosecutors, coordinate with the relevant departments, implement the principle of rewards and punishments, and not allow anyone to interfere in the work of prosecutors.

He said in order to ensure the security of prosecutors and prosecutors, a practical plan and mechanism should be established and implemented after consultation.”

The former attorney general submitted his resignation, which was accepted by the President, but the reason for his resignation has not yet been announced publicly.
