10 charged with trading presidential decrees of pardoning inmates

KABUL (SW) – At least ten officials have been taken into custody over the charge of trading presidential decrees of pardon for inmates.

Farhad Bayani, head of communications at the prison authority told Salam Watandar efforts are underway to put an end to corrupt practices here. He said ten officials were taken into custody last year for taking bribes and trading presidential decrees of pardon and relaxation in prison terms. Without sharing details or identities of the accused, he said these cases are under legal review.

Taking about a riot inside the Pul-e-Charki prison last week, Bayani said one person got killed and four others got wounded in that incident. He added the situation was now under control.

There have been many allegations against prison authorities for taking bribes and trading the presidential decrees that are often issued on various important occasions to pardon or relax prison terms of various category prisoners.
