Number of policewomen to reach 10,000 by 2024

 

KABUL (SW) – Mohammad Massoud Andarabi, the interior minister, has said the number of female police officers is set to be increased to 10,000 by 2024.

The Interior Minister made these remarks today in connection with the accountability drive program. Andrabi said that in order to increase the presence of women in the police ranks, the level of capacity and knowledge should be increased. Mohammad Massoud Andarabi added that half of the country’s population is made up of women, and that is why the number of female police officers shall be increased in order to address women’s issues and provide services to them.

According to the interior minister, about 4,000 women have joined the police force. He said though the international community has insisted that law enforcement remained the main duty of police yet the Afghan police are still on the frontline of war along with the NDS and army.

According to the minister, the government is looking to focus on the role of the police in law enforcement.

The interior minister said that over the past six months up to 5,000 police personnel who had been protecting individuals or facilities have been called back to their original duties.
