Calls for justice, investigation into the killing of journalist in Ghor

KABUL (SW) – Calls have been made for thorough investigations and justice into the assassination of three family members of a slain journalist in Ghor province.

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has said it would like to have the responsible bodies to investigate the killing of Bismillah Adel Aimaq, the former director of Radio Sada-e-Ghor, as well as the attack on his father’s house.

It said in a series of tweets on Sunday that according to the initial findings by the organization suggest a local Taliban commander was involved in deadly attack that killed three people, including a minor girl and left four others injured.

Meanwhile, the NATO Senior Civilian Representative has also called for justice in this regard. Stefano Pontecorvo said in a statement that two months after Bismillah Adil Aimaq, a journalist and activists from Ghor killed, his relatives have been targeted as well. “The role of the Afghan #FreePress is more important now than ever. These attacks must stop!” he said.

Hayatullah Adel, head of the second police district and a brother of Aimq, told Salam Watandar on Friday that the Taliban attacked their house in the village of Tagha Teimour, west of Feroz Koh, the provincial capital. According to him, a brother, a cousin and a 15-year-old niece of the Aimaq were killed and 10 others were injured in the attack. He added the Taliban also set fire to their house.

The Taliban, however, denied involvement in the attack. Yusuf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, said the attack was not carried out by their fighters.
