Soldiers’ sacrifices, services honored on their national day

KABUL (SW) – The National Soldier’s Day was celebrated in Kabul and other provinces of the country on Saturday.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was flanked by top ranking officials to mark the day at the Ministry of Defense.  Speaking on the occasion, he hailed the sacrifices and services of the members of the security and defense forces. “Without you, the state would not exist. Everyone must be convinced that maintaining, strengthening and equipping security forces is my first duty. The spirit you have is unparalleled, the capacity that Afghanistan’s defense and security forces have today is commendable.”

On his term, Shah Mahmood Miakhil, Deputy Minister of Defense, said that last year was the most difficult year for the country’s security forces, but they emerged successful in providing security to the citizens. According to Miakhel, the coronavirus has disrupted the process of recruiting and attracting security and defense forces, and the release of Taliban prisoners has had a negative impact on the country’s security.

Five years ago, the government declared Feb. 27 as the Soldiers’ Day or the National Security and Defense Forces’ Day. On this day, the sacrifices and services of the security forces of the country are honored and celebrated.
