Prosecutor in Bamyan arrested over bribery

BAMYAN (SW) – A prosecutor has been taken into custody in Bamyan province for allegedly taking bribes worth AFN 30,000 in the province.

Bamyan’s police chief, Zabardast Safi, told Salam Watandar that they had arrested a prosecutor in the Yakawlang district of the province on Tuesday for taking a bribe. Safi did not provide further details about the detainee.

However, two other sources, who did not want to be named, told Salam Watandar the police had arrested Hamidullah Amini, the head of the Yakawlang district prosecutor’s office, for taking a bribe. Amini was previously the head of the Kohmard district attorney’s office in Bamyan, but residents of the district were unhappy with his work.

“About six months ago, Ahmad Zia Wafai, the investigation prosecutor of Kohmard district, was also arrested in Kabul for taking bribe and is now in police custody,” said one of the sources.

We wished to have views of the Bamyan Appellate Prosecutor’s Office, but they said that the Attorney General’s Office had instructed them not to speak to the media.
