24 civilians killed in Herat in 2 months

 

HERAT CITY (SW) – At least 24 civilians were killed and 51 others wounded in clashes between security forces and the Taliban in Herat province during past two months.

These figures were shared by the Herat Civilian Protection Working Group here on Saturday.

Malang Borhani, chairman of the people’s council for the protection of civilians in Herat, said that based on the assessments made by their working group, the number of civilian casualties in the clashes between security forces and the Taliban in two months show an alarming increase.

The council head added that the number of civilian casualties in Kahsan, Golran, Oba, Pashtun Zarghun, Kashk-e-Kohnah, Karkh, Shin Dand and Ghorian districts of the province are particularly high.

Lamenting the raging violence, Borhani said that in addition to civilian casualties, residential houses, shops and agricultural lands have also been severely damaged here.

According to him, assassinations not linked to the war and other crimes are not included in this assessment list.

Sayed Ashraf Sadat, head of the Herat Civilian Protection Working Group, said on the occasion that the insurgency has practically spread to residential areas now. He expressed concerns that continuation of this situation would make life difficult for the people of the province.
