Taliban kill 18 security forces in Baghlan, Kunduz

KABUL (SW) – At least 18 security forces were killed and 5 wounded following the Taliban assaults in Kunduz and Baghlan provinces, official said on Tuesday.

A reliable security source in Kunduz told Salam Watandar on condition of anonymity that the Taliban attacked two security checkpoints in the “Tapa Bistopanj” area of ​​Dasht-e-Tarchi district of Kunduz province at 5:30 this morning. According to the source, after several hours of fighting, both checkpoints fell into the hands of the Taliban, as a result of which 15 soldiers and 3 others were wounded.

The source added that the Taliban torched one Humvee tank and took away all the weapons and equipment from the checkpoints.

Nabi Kakar of Kunduz’s Dasht-e-Archa district acknowledged Taliban attacks on security posts in the district, but did not elaborate on the number of casualties. Officials from the Pamir Corps of the army and local security officials in Kunduz were reluctant to comment, despite constant contacts.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, in Baghlan, sources told Salam Watandar that 3 policemen were killed and 2 others were wounded in a Taliban attack on a checkpoint in the second security district. According to the sources, 5 security officials were abducted by the Taliban in the attack and their weapons and equipment were confiscated. The source added that a Humvee tank of the security forces was also destroyed.

This was the third check post on the Baghlan-Kunduz highway that fell to the Taliban.
