Saleh suggests to hang Taliban captives

KABUL (SW) – Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president, has proposed to execute the Taliban insurgents arrested by the security forces.

In a social media post, he said the main reason for the rise in assassinations in the big cities is that Taliban prisoners think that they will be pardoned in any case and will not be punished for their actions. The vice president said a number of detainees should be executed to solve the problem of terrorism in big cities.

Referring to the assassination of two female judges in Kabul, he said many Taliban insurgents have proudly confessed of their crimes, but their only hope is that one day they will be released without any punishment.

Yesterday, two female judges were killed by unknown gunmen in Kabul. Saleh said that Qudsiya, a member of the Investigative and Studies Department of the Supreme Court, and Zakia, a member of the Commerce Affairs Court, were assassinated when they were on their way to work. Emphasizing the need to resolve the issue of targeted assassination, the first vice president said he will raise the issue of death sentence for such captives at a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Rule of Law.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, has called Amrullah Saleh’s remarks as an attempt to sabotage the peace process. He said that prisoners have their own rights and no one can execute a political or war prisoner. The Taliban spokesman warned of consequences of the execution of their fighters.

Saleh also called on families to prevent the transfer of their children to the Taliban-controlled religious schools in Pakistan.
