Sacked employee of MoPW stage demonstration

KABUL (SW) – A number of protesting employees of the Ministry of Public Works have complained against police high-handedness.

In the video circulating on the social media, a number of employees of the Ministry of Public Works can be seen gathered in front of the ministry building and chanted slogans against minister Najibullah Yamin against their alleged ‘illegal sacking’.

Sayed Mujtaba Sadat, a law graduate and an employee of the Ministry of Public Works, told Salam Watandar that the minister has issued directives to lay-off employees with academic credentials below graduation. He said, the ministry officials have, however, begun sacking rampantly regardless of their work experience and capacity.

The protesters warned that they will continue to protest until the Minister of Public Works is removed.

Meanwhile, Firdaus Faramarz, a spokesman for the Kabul police headquarters, said the protest had gathered without any coordination, and had first attacked police before the security forces retaliated. According to him, police only reverted to aerial shelling to disperse the crowd.
