Three doctors abducted from Parwan, Herat

CHARIKAR (SW) – Unidentified gunmen have abducted two doctors from Parwan and one doctor form Herat province.

According to security sources, two doctors were abducted by three unidentified gunmen at around 9 a.m. Sunday night. Abdul Shakur Qudusi, Bagram district governor, confirmed the incident and said that the doctors had been abducted while on duty at an emergency clinic in the village of Sar Syad in the district.

According to him, the kidnappers have demanded money in exchange for the release of the two doctors. Bagram district governor did not say anything about the amount of money demanded by the abductors.

Commenting on the matter, Mohammad Sadiq Hashmi, director of crime control at Parwan Police Command, said efforts to free the two doctors are underway. He claimed that treating the Taliban was likely to be one of the motives.

A similar incident involving abduction of a doctor took place in Herat province last evening.

Local officials in Herat province said that Dr. Nazifullah Pooyandeh, a well-known psychiatrist in the province, was abducted at around 9 pm last night from near his resident in the Sufi Abad area of the sixth district of Herat city.

Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada said efforts have begun to free the doctor. Eye-witnesses to the incident, meanwhile, said the kidnappers were unidentified gunmen dressed in military uniforms.
