Second meeting of HCNR held under Abdullah

KABUL (SW) – The High Council for National Reconciliation held its second formal meeting under its chairman Abdullah Abdullah here on Saturday.

Addressing the moot, Abdullah said the members of the government’s negotiating team at the intra-Afghan talks can pave the way for peace by sharing their views, experiences and theories. He added the members of the government’s negotiating team at these talks should enter the second round with the Taliban with confidence and without fear.

Amrullah Saleh, the first vice President, said at the meeting that the Taliban could not extinguish the flames of war in the country by deliberately assassinating tribal elders, journalists and civil activists. He said the continuation of war by the Taliban has further complicated the peace negotiation process.

Younus Qanuni, a member of the leadership committee of the HCNR, called for ensuring women and youth’s representation in this body.

The first meeting of the leadership committee of the HCNR was held on Dec. 5, 2020 at presidential palace in the presence of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.

The second sitting on Saturday was also attended by former president Hamid Karzai, second vice president Sarwar Danish and a number of other well-known political figures.
