After closure for decades, Spinzar Corporation revived

KUNDUZ (SW) – After closure for nearly two decades, authorities in Kunduz on Saturday announced reopening of the state-owned Spinzar oil and ghee processing corporation here.

Local officials in Kunduz province said that based on a memorandum of understanding signed between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, the Afghan government has purchased five new machines worth $ 120,000. The machines were transported to Kunduz via Tajikistan and through the commercial port of Sher Khan.

Kunduz deputy governor Hashmatullah Rahimi said in this regard that with the installation of these machines, the company will resume operations. He said with great efforts and support of the government, the re-opening has been ensured.

Zabihullah Zahid, head of the Kunduz Spinzar Enterprise, told Salam Watandar that the machines were capable of processing 10 tons of oil in 24 hours. According to the head of the company, Spinzar Kunduz, in the last two decades, the activity of this enterprise had been stopped due to insecurity.

Zahid said the revival of this enterprise will provide job opportunities for hundreds of residents of the province.

A number of Kunduz residents welcomed the government’s move, hoping it would help turn the economy around. They call on local officials in Kunduz to provide jobs for the able and unemployed in the province.
