Prolonged power outages irk Kabul residents

KABUL (SW) – The prolonged and constant power outages in Kabul have irked residents in the capital city.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of Kabul residents said they hardly get electricity for few hours a day resulting in many hardships for them and their families.

Amir Khaliqi, one such Kabul resident, said many such complaints against the power utility’s failure in providing electricity have fallen on deaf ears. Ahmad, another Kabul dweller, said power outages for hours have disrupted his life cycle. He stressed the corresponding officials should be held accountable for their failure.

Meanwhile, Waheedullah Tawhidi, spokesman for the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat, the power utility, has said a technical glitch at a power substation transmitting electricity from Uzbekistan was at the core of the issue.

He vowed the power supply would resume to normal in Kabul once this problem was addressed.

Tawhidi urged the Kabul residents to cooperate with the power utility in terms of minimal and responsible use of electricity.
