Survey finds “ethnic hegemony” as an important factor behind raging war

KABUL (SW) – The Afghanistan Citizen Engagement for Advocacy, Justice and Prosperity organization has said in its latest report that the “ethnic hegemony” is an important factor in the war in Afghanistan and Taliban are to be blamed for continuing the war.

It said people do not have a positive view of the government’s actions and this has widened the gap between the people and the government.

The organization commonly known as ‘Majma’ released results of its opinion polls on the government’s achievements at the 5th Geneva Summit on Afghanistan 2020.

Aziz Rafey, director of the ‘Majma’, said the survey was conducted through interviews with 1750 people in 13 provinces who were asked about security, corruption, elections, governance, aid effectiveness, human rights and the economy.

According to him, the results of the survey show that 93 percent of the people have no faith in the government’s actions. Rafey added that the government has not fulfilled its commitments made to the international community at the Geneva II summit in 2018.

According to Majma’s poll, 98 percent of those interviewed believed that the Taliban’s war with the government is not legitimate, and another 97 percent said that the war should be ended through talks.

Hamdullah Haqoqmal, a member of the Majma, said those who support the Taliban also believed that the Taliban’s war has no religious dimension.

According to the survey, 98 percent of those interviewed confirmed the existence of corruption in government agencies.
