Marshal Dostum set to return to Kabul

KABUL (SW) – The former first vice president, Marshal Abdul Rasheed Dostum is set to return from Jawzjan province to Kabul and meet President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.

Enayatullah Babar Farahmand, a figure close to Marshal Dostum, the leader of the Junbish-e-Islami party, told Salam Watandar that the former VP was set to come to Kabul to reach a consensus among political leaders and discuss increasing insecurity with President Ghani.

It is said that Marshall Dostum will come to Kabul at the official invitation of President Ghani and take responsibility for the war against the Taliban, but Farahmand refused to share details.

Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the Presidential Palace on this as well, but the Office of the Presidential Spokesman said that it has nothing to say about this at the moment.

Political experts say that President Ghani has sidelined many influential political figures along with Marshal Dostum under the guise of warlords, but this approach has backfired. Asadullah Nadim, a political and military expert, told Salam Watandar that in a situation where the Taliban are on killing spree, the unification of political leaders and the dissolution of powers by the President is a good policy.

Marshall Dostum sided with Ghani in the 2014 elections as first deputy, but soon, due to tensions between President Ghani and Marshall Dostum, relations between the two became strained.
