Six security guards of Kamal Khan Dam killed

ZARANJ (SW) – At least six members of the public order police have been got killed in a Taliban assault on a check post near the Kamal Khan Dam in Nimroz province.

The well-placed source that wished not to be named said the incident took place last evening in the area of ​​”Qala-e-Fatah” near Kamal Khan Khan Dam. Two more policemen were said to be injured. The source added that the attack took place at a time when the construction work at the Dam was in progress.

The Taliban have not commented on the incident.

The third phase of the Kamal Khan Dam construction project was inaugurated three years ago by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Back then he described water management as key aspect of the government policy.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Iran officials said to have spent $ 850 million on water management in Sistan province bordering Nimroz. According to Iranian officials, 35% of the drinking water for the residents of Sistan province is supplied from the water flowing from Kamal Khan Dam.
