Acclaimed folk musician Kishmi is no more

TALUQAN (SW) – Acclaimed local musician Dur Mohammad Kishmi has died at the age of 88, his relatives confirmed on Saturday.

Relatives of the popular folk singer said that he died on Saturday morning in the district hospital of Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province. Hi son, Javed Kishmi, said his father had been hospitalized for several days.

Dur Mohammad Kishmi was one of the most famous folk singers in the country, and had huge fan following particularly in the north and northeastern provinces.

Many contemporary artists re-produced and remix his compositions. Mir Maftoon is one of them.

Officials of the Badakhshan Department of Information and Culture have called the death of Dur Mohammad Kishmi as a great loss for the country’s cultural heritage.

Kishmi dedicated nearly five decades of his life to the local music scene.
